I chose to make a Esport motion graphics video for the League of Legends Worlds 2024 Finals after I got inspired by the graphics they made the event.
I started by designing the text and its effect to have this cool echo shadow effect, so that it would be more appealing as esports motion graphics tend to focus on unique, easy to remember and satisfying visuals. I then added some adjustment layer effects like the grainy/dusty one that changes seed every frame meaning the dust never looks the same. It adds this satifying look that is commonly seen in video game related aesthetic stuff such as merch, posters and motion graphics. Then I added the Worlds 2024 trophy which comes up with a rotating text reading MAKE THEM BELIEVE which is the Worlds 2024 slogan and also a very important phrase within the LOL community as it references many important moments. Then the text MAKE THEM BELIEVE moves to the middle of the screen and switches languages to click with watchers all over the world. Finally the LOL logo can be seen.
This project was really fun and I learned a good amount. First, some effects are really heavy meaning just waiting for the basic in software view can take quite long. Luckily it was all worth it as after playing with the effects settings and adding some code to make things move at a certain pace and stay a certain way, it looked amazing. I was able to create a video from graphics I saw which I thought was a very good way for me to learn. This project also thought me that things that look simple can actually be quite time consuming and hard to make, it can require a lot of patience as well since AE doesn’t always like to cooperate. Overall, I really enjoy the aesthetic of it and that was one of my main focus along with clarity as it is what is most common in other Esports Motion Graphics. I am very satisfied and would like to make more of this in the future.
